Fundata – Moieciu de Sus Ecodestination

We have contributed to the sustainable development of the Carpathian Gate area through ecotourism, an essential factor in biodiversity conservation as well. To achieve our goal, we have created a strategic local partnership between the TAUs (Territorial Administrative Units) of the area (Fundata, Moieciu and Bran) and the administrations of the two large protected areas (Bucegi Natural Park and Piatra Craiului National Park) in order to support the CEM (Foundation Center for Mountain Ecology) as a Management Unit for the Carpathian Gate Ecotourism Destination (UMD). We have drawn up the ecotourism development strategy for the area through participatory methods, with the involvement of members from the local community, NGOs and local public administration. Moreover, in order to support the strategy and the capacity development of the UMD-CEM, we have drawn up a financial mechanism concept for the sustainable development and the conservation of culture and nature in the destination, so that each measure included in the strategy has an estimated financial support. Also, in order to expand the ecotourism offer, we have evaluated 3 thematic tours in the Eco-Romania certification system.
The promotion of the Carpathian Gate ecotourism destination has been diversified by launching the www.poartacarpatilor.ro website, by creating the ecotourism map and the brochure of the destination, but also by participating in two thematic fairs: “”Salonul Bicicletei”” (bicycle expo) in Bucharest and the “”Tourism Fair”” from Braşov.
For a better understanding of the activities and objectives of the CEM and the City Hall of Fundata related to this project, we have organized several local events such as “”Christmas Fest”” in Moieciu de Sus, Ecotourism Festival in Fundata or the 8th edition of the EcoMarathon in Moieciu de Sus. More than 100 local entrepreneurs, more than 150 volunteers and more than 3,500 visitors have been involved in these events.
