Strengthening the capacities of FOAs for sustainable forest management

During the implementation of the project, we have created a development strategy and management plans for sustainable forest management. During visits to the five selected areas in Suceava, USV-FF experts together with Nostra Silva staff implemented management plans, harvesting technologies and forest certification (a total of 72 participants). The Nostra Silva Forest Owners Federation has become a core player to promote the interests of its members, has upgraded its website and introduced short films on YouTube to better document cases of illegal exploitation that have increased the visibility of the organization at international level. The most important actors in the Romanian forestry sector, “Nostra Silva”, became an important voice of the forests owners in Romania due to the project. The national PEFC leadership body for Romania has been legally established as a new NGO, “PEFC Romania”, starting in May 2016. The Romanian NGB submitted the endorsement documents in June 2017 to the “PEFC International”. They certified the scheme in Romania in June 2018.
