During the project, 50,730 newborn babies received hearing screening and 7,496 children benefited from visual tests in 5 maternities in Bucharest, Oradea, Timișoara and Iași. In situations where problems have been identified, children have received early intervention services. Also, 153 children and 306 parents together with their family members received specialized counseling and assistance in the four Early Assistance and Intervention Centers. For professionals in the field, we have released an early intervention report for children with multiple sensory impairments in Romania (2007-2014) focusing on good practice models. Moreover, in 2016, we organized the International Conference on Early Intervention for Children with Multisensory Deficiencies, a context in which specialists in education, health, social services in Romania and abroad discussed and concluded that a national program for the screening of newborn babies is of crucial importance in detecting children at risk. By the end of the project we were able to develop two important legislative proposals, which were sent to the Ministry of National Education and Scientific Research.
