We have developed the “”Strategic Action Plan for Public Awareness Raising on Biodiversity Conservation and Sustainable Development”” along with 25 NGO representatives. The strategy was based on the conclusions outlined after the interview-based assessment of the needs regarding ecological education. To increase the awareness, we have prepared a media package with 100 ecological documentaries filmed during the project in national parks and protected areas from the country. In addition to topics related to nature and biodiversity, the films also address themes such as sustainability, arts and occupations specific to the area. The films were promoted via YouTube and Facebook channels (www.facebook.com/ecofilmRO/), but also at events organized within the project.
20 NGOs have increased their visual communication capability by participating in the camp, the festival or the workshop organized within the project. The Creative Camp in the field of naturalistic documentary film was held in Maramureș for 7 days and had been attended by representatives of environmental NGOs, selected on the basis of interest to learn methodologies and tactics to create eco films. 20 films were produced by the NGOs involved in the various project activities.
The most notable event of the project was the International Short Eco Film Festival – SEFF, organized in Sighetu – Marmației, Maramureș, in October 2017. At SEFF 845 films from 94 countries around the world were registered. Of these, 31 productions from 21 countries were selected to be projected in the three categories of the festival. Awards were given for the Eco Short, Super Eco Short and Micro Eco categories. A selection of films produced during the project was also presented, the event being also an important tool for promoting the project results. Participants included not only the general public but the green NGO sector, academics, film producers and directors, representatives of national public television, environmental communication experts. There was a good mix of personalities from the field, so interesting discussions, exchanges of ideas were conducted and the foundations for future collaborations were laid.
In addition to the SEFF we have organized an eco film projection evening at the Bastionul Măcelarilor in Baia Mare. The participants had the opportunity to watch the festival’s most popular short films and also some productions made by the project team. There have been interesting discussions regarding the films presented, so the project and the eco films benefitted of greater visibility.
