Within the project, we have built a network of 80 km mountain bike trail linking the villages of Viscri, Bunesti, Mesendorf, Crit, Cloasterf, Saschiz and Sapartoc with the city of Sighisoara, as well as the village of Saschiz with Archita and Roades. In order to build this network we hired several local people and purchased different machines. The cooperation with the Swiss partner materialized in the 2 visits to Romania and one visit of ADEPT Foundation in Switzerland. The exchange of experience with the Swiss partner has helped to improve the construction of the trail and to clarify some aspects of the visiting and interpretation strategy. We have also developed the “Best Practice Guide for Building Bicycle Trails”, as well as the visiting strategy. In order to promote the new trail we have implemented a website and a smartphone application. The promotion of these trails was also done through the brunches organized at Viscri and Saschiz, as well as through visits by specialized journalists. On the newly created trail, we organized the National Mountain Bike Competition, attended by more than 270 competitors in 2014 and 310 competitors in 2015. Already in the first two years of the project, we have seen the benefits of this infrastructure in the area by coagulating the community for a common purpose. Those who realize that the trail is a point of attraction for outdoor activities and nature lovers in a multi-ethnic and multicultural area commit to collaborate for a common interest: the economic potential that this infrastructure offers to the area.
