The project was aimed at improving the legislation on green spaces through an innovative approach, starting from the civil society and moving towards the legislative institutions. We have conducted a sociological study in order to assess the awareness of the public about green spaces and their purpose. Consultations and know-how exchanges took place with the Swiss partner, and the cooperation resulted in a very strong and effective partnership. We have developed 3 case studies focused on the correlation between the current situation and the weak points of the 24/2007 Law. In order to develop case studies as specific as possible, we have requested information and have had meetings with the local administrations. We have organized a seminar in Bucharest and workshops in 3 major cities, where we presented the proposed amendments of the legislation to different stakeholders and we have also collected their feedbacks. The members of our organization have been trained in advocacy. The amendment of the law has been completed before the end of the project and substantial changes have been proposed, thus the document has been finalized to be submitted to the Senate.
In order to facilitate the application of the present law by the local authorities and other responsible institutions, we have developed a guidebook that has been sent out to the mentioned entities.
After the end of the project, the proposed revised legislation has been submitted to the legislature, and in 2018 it has been approved by the Senate.
