We have designed and tested a prototype of a hydraulic wheel (electric power generator rotor) in order to create an innovative, low-impact system of renewable energy production for the local community in Sovata. The Environmental Protection Agency from Mures County has been also involved in the project. More than 400 people have been informed about the pilot project, thus contributing to the awareness raising among the local population and decision-makers on the use of renewable energy with low impact on nature, as well as promoting environmental principles in the economic sector. To facilitate the spread of information, we have produced a spot, a short documentary film and a brochure on the issues approached by the project, namely the green energy paradox and the pilot procedure of creating the prototype. At the end of the project we came to the conclusion that the use of the mountain brooks for the production of electricity is not recommended, the only solution being the zero alternative, namely the non-disturbance of the streambeds.
