The relationship between MAN and NATURE in Lower Ciuc Basin

Through the activities of the project, we have contributed to the improvement of the quality of the environment and we have provided local communities with feasible alternatives to social and economic development through the responsible use of natural resources for sustainable development of the Lower Ciuc basin. Awareness-raising activities on environmental protection and sustainable development have included concrete and proactive measures of involvement of the target groups in actions with a positive impact on the environment. We have implemented a pilot project in the Natura 2000 site in the Lower Ciuc Basin, on a demonstrative land of 15 hectares, where we applied good pasture practices and traditional animal breeding practices. Following a survey conducted in local communities, we have published a book with information on traditional methods and current methods of animal breading and agriculture in the region, fauna and flora of the area, traditions and cultural heritage of the localities, hydrology and forests of the area, and in general, the relationship between man and nature in the past and present century. We have informed about 5,000 people about the results of the survey within the information and awareness raising campaign that we organized in 8 neighboring local communities. The management plan, the strategy and the visitors’ plan of the “Piatra Șoimilor” Natural Reserve were developed in a participatory manner, based on a detailed study on biodiversity and conservation.
