We have initiated a community partnership between the civil society, public institutions and the business sector, aiming at the sustainable protection and valorisation of the unique natural values of the wetlands of the Fizies Basin. In this regard, we have created the sustainable development strategy of the destination, with an emphasis on ecotourism, which was presented and agreed upon in the framework of the general seminar of the partnership.
We have entirely renovated the 1,100 m wooden deck at the Reed Beds Reserve in Sic, we have also built two bird watching towers, and renovated the two gazebos. We have also identified key locations, accessed by the public, where we installed 4 informational panels and 6 interactive objects to help visitors learn about the values of the Fizies Basin. To promote the Fizies Basin we have also launched the http://deltatransilvaniei.ro website. In addition, we have created the slogan and logo of the tourism destination, as well as a guidebook of nature, with an emphasis on the presentation of the main species of flora and fauna.
To enhance the essential role of schools in mobilizing the local communities and promoting environmental protection, we have created a pilot educational program that has been successfully tested in 2 schools and subsequently promoted in 20 other schools.
In order to increase the capacity of locals to implement ecotourism activities and to benefit from the conservation of the natural values of the area, 26 locals participated in a workshop on ecotourism and learned how to promote to the visitors the points of interest of the Fizies Basin.
