We planned to increase the number of cyclists, thus contributing to the improvement of the quality of the urban environment by reducing air and noise pollution. First of all, we have developed a pilot-programme of cycling road safety training, for which we have created a specific manual for teachers. The manual was used in the course “”Training for Trainers””, through which we prepared 26 trainers from 12 cities. In order to carry out the educational activities, we purchased the elements for the bike-handling skills test tracks, 5 bikes for each partner city (Târgu Mureş, Odorheiu Secuiesc, Miercurea Ciuc) and 3 cargo bicycles for the sustainable transportation of the track elements. 275 pupils from 14 schools participated in the bike-handling skills classes, organized in the three partner cities.
We also concluded 4 partnership agreements with public institutions that facilitated various project activities. In order to raise awareness among traffic participants, we have obtained statistical data from the local Traffic Police units on the number of local traffic accidents in the three localities. In addition, we applied 2,112 questionnaires in 25 high schools of the three cities, the data being used for informational materials. We also organized 7 awareness raising events (Critical Mass, Breakfast 4 Bikers, etc.) with more than 2,000 participants.
